How plants use shims
A motor, pump or gearbox is aligned by adding or taking away thin shims under its feet. Plants buy pre-cut stainless U-shim kits so the fitter can slide shims under a foot without removing the bolt. Thin gauges give fine adjustment; heavy gauges give coarse height setting and carry the load.

Which U-shim size do I need?
Measure the machine foot and the bolt. Our standard kit is 100 × 100 mm with a 32 mm slot (for bolts up to M24); sizes from 50 to 150 mm are available, and slots of 18, 21, 26 and 32 mm.
Which gauges are in a kit?
The thin kit has 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.75 mm. The heavy kit has 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 mm. Ten of each gauge per pack.
Stainless, brass or steel?
Stainless steel is the standard for strength and corrosion resistance; 316 for marine and chemical plants. Brass is soft and non-magnetic, for electrical machines and instruments.
