U-shim kits for machine alignment
Slotted U-shims slide around a bolt, so you can add or remove shims without taking the bolt out. Our kits hold several gauges so the fitter can build up exactly the height needed under a motor, pump or gearbox foot.
How U-shim kits work
The slot is 32 mm wide and 50 mm deep, which clears a foot bolt up to M24. Thin gauges (0.05 to 0.75 mm) give fine adjustment; heavy gauges (1.0 to 3.0 mm) give coarse height setting and carry the load. Every pack holds ten of each gauge, and the thickness is marked on every shim.
- Thin kit: 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.75 mm in stainless steel 304
- Heavy kit: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 mm in stainless steel 304 or 316, or brass
- Sizes from 50 to 150 mm; slots of 18, 21, 26 and 32 mm; other sizes to order
Which material?
Stainless steel 304 is the standard. Choose 316 for marine, coastal and chemical plants. Brass is soft, so it does not score mating faces, and it is non-magnetic, which suits electrical machines and instruments; use it for light and moderate loads.

What size U-shim do I need?
Measure the foot of the machine and the bolt size. The standard 100 × 100 mm kit with a 32 mm slot suits bolts up to M24. Send us the foot dimensions for other sizes.
Can I order a single gauge?
Yes. Send the gauge, size and quantity. Kits are the most economical way to buy every gauge you will need.
How are the shims checked?
Thickness is checked with a micrometre and marked on every shim, and edges are deburred.
