A pair of wedges pushed in from opposite ends sets a height smoothly, which a flat sheet cannot do. We make tapered levelling wedge pairs, and take enquiries for wave shims and other special shapes.

Our standard wedge pair is 100 × 40 mm, 6 mm at the thick end and 1 mm at the thin end (a slope of 1 in 20), in mild steel, precision-ground to the taper. Other lengths, widths and tapers are made to your drawing.
Wave shims and other shapes
Wave shims (wave washers) are formed to a spring grade and load by specialist makers. Send us the size, thickness, number of waves and load and we quote the shim you need.

What is a levelling wedge used for?
To set a precise height under a machine or plate by sliding two wedges against each other, then locking them. It gives a smooth adjustment that flat shims cannot.
Can you make wave shims?
Yes, on request. Give us the outside and inside diameter, material, thickness, number of waves and load.
